During the Pandemic, our Artistic Director ASJ lost her Mum Heather Spencer-Jones to COVID 19. Hospitalised at just the time visitors were not allowed in to dying loved ones, ASJ and her mother were kept apart for a series of months. Isolated from each other and everybody else, the two turned to alternative communication. Relying on their mutual love of Shakespeare and music, the two evolved the end of their relationship into a creative endeavour, infused with poetry and original music, until sadly Heather passed away on the same day as ‘partygate’.

After her death, as the theatre world began to turn again, ASJ interviewed the nurses that tended to her mother and fifty other NHS professionals who dealt with lockdown end of life care and, in collaboration with the NHS, ASJ has created CHOPPED LOGIC, a Shakespeare and live music infused love-letter to the NHS’ struggle during the Pandemic. The play, which she is performing herself, has received many accolades having played various festivals and is currently touring the UK, playing one night only at Liverpool’s Shakespeare North Playhouse on Wednesday 21st June at 7.30pm.
